September at Alpha Gam
Updated: Jul 24
Here at Gamma Alpha, we have had a busy month full of successful philanthropy events, welcoming a new pledge class, game days, homecoming, and more.
Early this September, Alpha Gam hosted our annual fall philanthropy event "Mr. Milledge" at the Georgia Theater. This fun-filled talent pageant for fraternity men on campus drew a huge crowd and everyone had a blast! We are proud to share that through ticket sales for Mr. Milledge and the Parent's Weekend auction, our Gamma Alpha chapter raised about $16,000 to fight food insecurity in the United States. All of this money will be donated to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation which benefits organizations like Meals on Wheels and Feeding America. Endless thanks to anyone who donated to make this possible!
Initiating Fall 2018 Pledge Class
We were so glad to officially initiate our Fall Pledge Class of 2018 into the Alpha Gamma Delta sisterhood. We have loved watching them grow as new members and cannot wait to see what they will contribute to our sisterhood.
Big Little Reveal
PC '17 was so excited to welcome their new Littles into their "Gam Fams." All week, the Bigs left small gifts or clues for their Littles, all leading up to the big themed reveal at the end of the week. The themes were fun and varied, including the "My Little is Out of this World" space theme pictured here.
Homecoming 2018 This year, Alpha Gam came in second place in the black division of the UGA Spirit of Homecoming Competition. We donated 126 chalk boxes full of school supplies for children in the Athens-Clarke County Community, participated in shop-window and street painting competitions, in addition to making a parade float to support UGA Homecoming. Pictured on the float alongside Peaches the Bulldog are Erin Webb ('17) and Ally Maddox ('16), two members of Alpha Gam's Campus Relations Team.
Our sisters had a great time at our fall field party at Pappy's Field, a crowd favorite date night. Alpha Gams and their dates celebrated UGA football's win over the University of Missouri with delicious Mexican food and a live band in a beautiful setting.
Sister Spotlight: Xavier Morgan
Xavier, a member of PC '16, currently works as the Personnel Director on the Executive Board of Whatever it Takes (WIT) at UGA. WIT is a volunteer program in which UGA students run an after-school tutoring program for Athens-Clarke County students. Xavier started volunteering with Whatever It Takes during her first semester at UGA and "immediately fell in love with the program and the students" she served and she loved being able to give back to the community surrounding campus in "such a hands on way." She shares that the most rewarding part of her WIT journey has been watching the kids grow during her time in the program and seeing the impact she and her fellow volunteers have had on their lives. Xavier's favorite part about Alpha Gam is "how much it feels like home." As an out-of-state student from Rhode Island, Xavier appreciates the fact that even though she is 1,000 miles away from home, she always has a sister a "phone call away." She also shared that "the positive energy and love that this sisterhood radiates is unmatched" and she feels so blessed to be a part of it.
