February at Alpha Gam...
Updated: Jul 24, 2020
Our sisters kicked off the new semester with community service, visits from parents, welcoming a new pledge class, and countless sisterhood events.
Week of Service Grand Total: Over 1300 hours!
For our annual Alpha Gam week of service, our philanthropy team set out with a chapter-wide goal of completing 500 community service hours in one week. We are excited to say our Gamma Alpha Chapter far surpassed that goal with a final total of over 1300 hours completed in just one week and over 1700 hours in the whole month of February! Sisters contributed to their community by serving at the food bank, tutoring, participating in philanthropy organizations, and more. We look forward to seeing how our chapter can build upon this important work during the rest of this year. Looking forward - Save the date for our Spring Barbecue event on March 28th from 5:00 to 8:00 at the house!

Community Involvement: Dance Marathon
Many of our sisters are involved with UGA Miracle and participated in the organization's annual Dance Marathon this February. UGA Miracle is a student-led philanthropic organization which works all year to raise money for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Our sisters, through their various roles in UGA Miracle, stayed up for twenty-four hours at Dance Marathon getting to know the families impacted by CHOA and working to raise money for the kids. Also, our sisters took part in the "Standing Challenge" in which they stood on their feet for the entire 24 hours of Dance Marathon in solidarity of the kids treated by CHOA who are unable to stand. Alpha Gam raised $45,193 of UGA Miracle's grand total of $1,261,007, all for the kids.

Mommy Daughter Day
Our mothers traveled to Athens for a delicious Saturday morning brunch at Hardeman Sam's, followed by a UGA GymDogs meet. We loved sharing a win against Missouri with our moms!

Spring Bid Day: We're on Cloud 9!
This month we welcomed fourteen new sisters home to 530 South Milledge and we can't wait to see how they grow in our sisterhood.

Sister Spotlight: Gabi Gaines
Gabi, a member of our 2015 pledge class, has been involved in the Guide Dog Foundation (GDF) since her first week at the University of Georgia. Gabi raised her golden retriever, Mulan, for 15 months before returning her to the GDF in New York, where she finished her training to be a guide dog for the blind. As a GDF Group Leader, Gabi volunteers to lead a group of puppy raisers, campers, and applicants. Gabi's favorite part of being a GDF Group Leader is the "chance to see these amazing dogs grow and mature over time" and how the organization literally changes lives. In addition to her GDF leadership, Gabi is involved in a variety of other organizations including Shop With a Bulldog, Wesley, Athens Area Humane Society Foster, Honors Pre-Med Book Club, Brazilian Student Association, and more. Gabi's favorite part of our Alpha Gam sisterhood is the support, energy, and acceptance she finds in her sisters. According to Gabi, "our sisterhood is truly home here in Athens."
